Feelings shaped into words, inspired by moments
If he’s unsure of her
then that makes her unsure of him
and thus they have their perfect conundrum.
Where do they go from there?
Like two jousters before a fight
neither wants to take the first lunge
entering the deep
that ensnares its victims forever.
So, will they risk it?
Or will they live in this happy medium forever?
Her heart is so full
She wonders if anyone out there can match it
A helpless romantic
perhaps she expects too much
living in a disillusioned state
but perhaps the reality
of cosy mediocrity
is one she refuses to accept
Why when things are calm and stable
Do we seek chaos and drama?
Why when things are healthy and normal
Do we seek toxicity and pain?
Why when things are perfectly “fine”,
Do we think something might be missing?
We are taught to look for a grand romance that distorts reality
And fails to teach us what a relationship should be like
Perhaps its time, to re-write the narrative?
I bathe in those strong feelings
I once had
And wonder if
they’ll ever return
I’ll be your favourite dream
or your worse nightmare,
Either it’s going to be forever
or it’ll go down in flames,
This’ll be as sweet as roses
or as bitter as nettles,
but this much is true:
whatever it is, you won’t forget
And then I thought
why am I worrying?
Because if you aren’t right
then I will know
and then, that will be that
I can’t force you to feel for me
in the way I do
So if my heart isn’t reciprocated
I’ll find the home where it is
I soon realised
I was chasing a toxic challenge
where the only person being punished
was me
But all this changed
when I met you
